Define the condition you intend to buy

State the agreed preparation standard before seeking prices. Distinguish essential mechanical work, scheduled maintenance, included equipment and optional cosmetic improvements. A seller may offer a car as inspected but unprepared, while another includes defined work before release. These are different commercial scopes even if their advertised model and year match.

Use the inspection plan to create a numbered findings list. Attach evidence and a proposed action to each item. If a technician has not established the cause of a symptom, keep diagnosis as the next task rather than inserting a guessed replacement assembly. This prevents an unsupported assumption from driving both the cost and the purchase decision.

Request quotations against the same list

Give each provider the VIN, installed configuration, findings and required outcome. Ask for the work included, component references, item quantities, labour and final checks. A quotation should identify its currency, date and validity. Where delivery or other charges are excluded, request clarification from the provider instead of silently treating them as zero.

For components that vary by version, the body-parts matching guide explains what compatibility evidence to obtain. Retain the distinction between a proposed substitute and an approved item. If the scope changes after a supplier identifies the vehicle more precisely, preserve the earlier quote and the reason for revision so the comparison remains understandable.

Compare the completed function, not the cheapest item

Some jobs need fitting, setup and testing beyond the supplied component. Ask who performs each stage and whether the quotation covers a demonstrated working result. A screen that powers on has not necessarily passed the agreed cabin-function checks; a replacement part sitting in the boot has not completed the repair.

Use the service support review to define completion before accepting the figure. List any dependency on another provider or specialist equipment. If a seller proposes supplying parts for your workshop to fit after arrival, show that remaining work and its uncertainty separately from an offer that includes completed preparation.

PURCHASE REVIEW / 04

Use a transparent calculation

Add the confirmed item quantities multiplied by their quoted unit prices, then the agreed labour, consumables and other separately identified charges. Keep diagnostic allowances and optional work on different lines. A subtotal should be reproducible from the quotations rather than depending on an unexplained percentage added to the vehicle price.

For illustration only, two quoted items at 40 budget units each plus 70 units of labour produce a 150-unit subtotal before any other agreed charges. These are arithmetic inputs, not X5 PLUS market prices. If diagnosis later establishes another required task, revise the budget explicitly rather than implying that the first subtotal guaranteed the final cost.

PURCHASE REVIEW / 05

Account for parts availability and workshop timing

Ask whether a quoted part is available for the actual order and when the workshop can complete the job. Distinguish an estimated lead time from a confirmed arrangement. A low price with unresolved supply may not support your planned handover. Identify which tasks must finish before inspection can be closed or the vehicle can be offered to a customer.

In a dealer batch, track the status per VIN. One unfinished repair should not disappear inside an overall statement that the shipment is ready. The wholesale order guide explains how to manage exceptions. Do not purchase a large set of supposedly shared service parts until the applicable references have been confirmed for the cars being bought.

PURCHASE REVIEW / 06

Carry the budget into acceptance and review

Combine the vehicle offer with its confirmed preparation and visible unresolved allowances using the price and scope comparison. A more expensive vehicle may include different work; a lower-priced one may remain a sound choice if the additional scope is understood. The comparison should show the actual difference rather than assuming new, used or low mileage determines preparation cost.

After the work, replace estimates with completed invoices and note why any amount changed. Retain the final checks and outstanding limitations. Those records can improve your next budget for a comparable job, but one unusual repair is not a reliable average for every X5 PLUS. Request current quotations when the vehicle, supplier or scope changes.
